The Ideal Moment for…
LASER HAIR REMOVAL
When it comes to detailed hair removal, especially in the bikini area, we usually remember it at the last minute, just before summer, when we need to step onto a beautiful beach in a swimsuit… Perhaps this year we can remember it in time and get rid of unwanted hair in a new and permanent way…
Laser hair removal (laser epilation) permanently addresses hair growth on all parts of the body: from the face, abdomen, and bikini area to the back, legs, and arms. With this modern treatment, we can avoid waxing and the need for constant shaving and plucking, all while not damaging the surface layer of the skin: it remains soft and gentle, which is especially important for extra-sensitive areas (bikini zone, upper lip, underarms).
- Although hair can be removed with lasers throughout the year, explains dermatologist and laser expert Dr. Jasmina Kozarev, there are good reasons why this treatment is best performed in spring and why laser hair removal yields the best effects during this time of year. At our clinic, laser epilation is performed according to the most advanced dermatological protocols and with the use of the latest laser systems (using short pulse techniques).
Why is it most effective in spring?
The energy of the laser beam created by the laser device penetrates the skin and is focused on the hair follicle, acting on the darker pigment of the follicle. The greater the contrast between the color of the skin and the color of the hair, the more effective the treatment is. This means that the treatment should be scheduled for a time when the natural contrast between skin color and hair color is greatest, which is when the skin has lost its tan from the previous summer and any use of self-tanning products in the early summer days. Additionally, it should be noted that exposure to the sun tends to lighten hair, further reducing the contrast needed for effective laser treatment. Therefore, the greatest natural contrast that each person has between their skin color and hair color is in early spring, making this time of year ideal for laser hair removal.
For this type of treatment, the patient should prepare in advance. It is necessary to stop removing hair by plucking with tweezers or waxing at least 4 weeks before the scheduled appointment. The reason is very logical: by plucking or using wax, the hair is actually pulled out of the follicle, disrupting the natural hair growth. Laser energy cannot focus on the follicle if it has been removed, and thus it cannot destroy its ability to produce hair. During this preparatory period, if there is still a need for hair removal, shaving should be used, although it is not a perfect method for complete removal. But, we are still wearing jeans, pants, sweaters, or turtlenecks anyway…
Why is it safest in spring?
After laser hair removal, the skin is sensitive to UV rays and needs protection from the sun's rays in the form of sunscreen. Without this, there is not only a possibility of photo damage, but there may also be an increased pigmentation at the treatment sites.
For all these reasons, spring is the ideal time for laser hair removal. First, the skin has enough time to prepare adequately for summer. Second, for the laser treatment to show its full effect, several sessions are needed, averaging 4-5. This is not a procedure that concludes with one treatment, as hair in some patients may continue to grow minimally before growth completely stops. Spring provides enough time for this process to manifest, as well as enough time for the skin to fully recover and prepare for summer days. And the beach…
